Is it hormonal, or is it you?

Blaming hormones is a way to avoid a harder conversation with your life. Sometimes it is both. But it is never only chemistry.

The hormone conversation has become a place women hide. If everything can be explained by cortisol, estrogen, or a thyroid panel, then nothing has to be explained by how you have been living.

Sometimes the labs are real. Get the labs. Do not skip that. But when the labs come back and you still feel disconnected from yourself, you have to be brave enough to ask the second question.

Is it hormonal, or is it the fact that you have not been touched with tenderness in two years? Is it hormonal, or is it that you say yes when your body has been saying no since March?

Chemistry follows story. When you change the story — the boundaries, the schedule, the people you let close — the chemistry has to catch up. It is both. But it is never only chemistry.
