Your father and the shape of your femininity

Whether he was present, absent, adored, or feared, your father cast the first mold for how you receive from men. Naming his imprint is not blame. It is inventory.

The first man who taught you what love looks like was rarely a romantic partner. It was your father, or the man who stood in his place, or the space where a father should have been.

Fathers who were present but unavailable taught you to earn attention through achievement. Fathers who were absent taught you to expect that men will leave, so you might as well leave first. Fathers who were harsh taught your body to brace when a man walks into the room.

None of these are life sentences. But none of them evaporate on their own either. The imprint runs the show until you turn on the light and look at it.

This is not about blaming him. It is about naming the pattern he installed so that you can decide, as an adult woman, whether it still gets to drive.

The women who do this work stop dating their fathers. They stop hiring their fathers. They stop apologizing to men who share his tone. That is the freedom on the other side of this conversation.
